Go Go Games v Tourlestrane reports

St. John’s GAA Academy U8’s and U10’s

Road trip to Tourlestrane!

Last Wednesday evening the 10th June, in glorious sunshine, our clubs 7’s, 8’s, 9’s and 10’s teams travelled to Tourlestrane for the third last round of the 2015 Go Games. Tourlestrane had the pitches looking magnificently with all pitches marked out and ready on arrival.

7’s

The Ciaran Feeney and Fergal Kelly managed team had a full panel to select from. Aiden Moore started in goal and made some fine saves and very accurate kick outs in the first quarter. St. John’s started with Kian Roddy, Ryan Regan, Rion Monaghan and Cameron Rooney in the backs. Our back line marked really well and made some great passes into the forwards. The lads tackled with great precision and conceded only one point in the first period. Up front, John’s started with Jack Kelly, Kevin Patton, Fionn McMorrow, Conor O’Gara and Danny Feeney. All forwards appeared on the score sheet with some great points from distance and goals from close range.

Jack Kelly went to goals in the second quarter and gave some great length to kick outs. The second quarter saw Kevin Patton and Fionn McMorrow slotting two goals each. McMorrow celebrated with a few cart wheels! Danny Feeney excelled in the quarter with some fine soloing, holding possession and great defensive work. Conor O’Gara got his hands on some high balls and also scored a fine point under pressure. The jeep behind the goals was hit more than once with the ferocious way the John’s lads converted their points.

At half time, the St. John’s team switched roles and Ryan Regan began the 3rd in goals, picking out his teammates with all kick outs and commanding the goal line. Kian Roddy and Cameron Rooney linked up very well together and tapped over some fine points. Rion Monaghan was as always a leader on the pitch and showed some fine soloing, passing and thunder bolt goals during this quarter.

In the final Quarter St. John’s began to pass more and finished with some fine team scores, with Fionn McMorrow defending really well while playing in the forward line.

After the game, both teams showed great sportsmanship in lining up and shaking hands with each other.

Under 9s

We had a full team of 13 young players all eager to play in the game in Tourlestrane. We were fore warned that the opposition were up for a good game. However our starting 9 put in a super team performance with the first score of the game coming from Barry McNamara inside the first two minutes. Following on great hand passes and forward running, we were 7-0 up at the end of the first quarter. Some great scores followed from Daire Patton, Reece Armstrong and Mark Waldron.

Tourlestrane put in a very strong performance and were liable to take a score at any time but with our very strong boys in defence namely, Luke Lyttle, Seamus Casey and Calum Mulligan clearing the ball at every attempt.

All the team were involved in a great win with strong performances from Conor Flynn, Heather Egan, Shannon Cronin and Lucasz Kromer.

In the last quarter our forwards came into their own with two wonderful scores from Lee Curran and a super score from Grace McMorrow.

Having seen off tough opposition, our team won each quarter with the final score of 17-4 being well deserved for our players who tried their best from the start to the final whistle.

10’s

St. John's lined out in the first sightings of the summer sun last Wednesday evening away to Tourlastrane. Tourlastrane like the blistering sun showed no mercy in the opening quarter and gained a quick lead with some accurate shooting to gain a three point advantage.

Eoin Conway made some great saves in goal to keep St. John's in the game. And with some quick plays from the defence from Chloe Clerkin and Feelan McLoughlin, St. John's were back in it with great goals from Daire Walsh and Dylan Kearns. Corey O Dowd and Adam Kenny held up the middle of the pitch and had some great interceptions and blocks. Eoin Mulligan had a couple of attempts blocked and possession was hard fought for on the night.

Brendan Kovencheuk and Emmanuel Nwani had some great flowing plays and as the sun began to set it took with it a chance of a late come back for St John's with a couple of chances from the well abled Brendan Kovencheuk.

It was a great evening’s football all round and a mighty performance was given from the St John's U10's.
